Austin, Texas’s Voxtrot aren’t the newest kids on the block. They’ve had a solid buzz surrounding them for over a year now, but they still haven’t achieved a great deal of mainstream or widespread success. So when I heard this talented young band was following up the May 2006 release of their Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives EP, with another EP of brand new songs, I couldn’t help but give them a little ink. Only three songs long, the Your Biggest Fan EP is still plenty worth picking up.

Title track “Your Biggest Fan” is a bouncy, pop-tastic break up song that should have your head bobbing back and forth like you were Paul McCartney on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. The smooth and silky piano song “Trouble” sounds a bit like Robbers on High Street, while the string-laden, down-tempo offering “Sway” is structured around soft acoustic guitar picking reminiscent of (not to mention them twice, but…) the Beatles’ “Julia.” Together, the songs on the EP show the dynamic nature of this outfit. Each poppy and accessible yet different from the next, the songs are those of a confident band that’s ready to break out. So if you still haven’t taken the time to familiarize yourself with this up and coming young outfit, do so now. You’ll be glad you did.
