Along with preemptive war, gay bashing and theocracy, let’s hope another thing on its way out in this country now that the Republicans have been thumped is hatred of the French. Because, if you haven’t been paying attention lately, they’re getting this whole le rock electronique thing down pretty well. Air remains solid. Phoenix released a gem earlier this year. And now here’s Tahiti 80’s Fosbury, just now landing on our shores after being available in Europe for a while. It’s full of horn-drenched dance numbers along the lines of Stereolab or Saint Etienne. Why the band didn’t take off more after its disco-riffic single “Heartbeat” off 2000’s Puzzle is still a mystery. Sound engineers who’ve worked with post-NERD and Outkast aided the band in the creation of Fosbury. Look for a solo release from lead singer Xavier Boyer early next year.
