An anonymous group going by the name of Rhye created a bedroom masterpiece and fled the scene. No band member’s names have been posted, no tour dates, no mention of further productions. Just a single accompanied by a sultry music video. Nothing more. “Open” may be the tease of year.

Surfacing in February, the six-track release begins with the title track and concludes with instrumental versions of the first three songs. In essence, Open is the only proof this Los Angeles duo exists, and yet the sensual single sounds so beautiful that the one-track-band cannot be ignored. Without any prior knowledge of the song’s music video, the combination of violin and no-rush percussion conjures up images of intertwined lovers. By the time the smooth vocals arrive it’s quite easy to picture the soft bed as well. Especially with lyrics like these:

I’m a fool for that shake in your thighs
I’m a fool for that sound in your sighs
I’m a fool for your belly
I’m a fool for your love

This indie take on an R&B sound captures the feeling so well that the creation of the video (NSFW) must’ve been easy to facilitate. With everyone picturing the same slow pleasures, one only need play the song itself for the actors to grasp the exact sentiment and concept. The only added twist would be the revolving door of lovers taking their turn between the sheets.

Bedside candles remain unlit as nightstand mixtapes eagerly await further word on the whereabouts and happenings of Rhye.
