This song’s creeping growth follows similarly to Apparat’s growing name. Sascha Ring, previous co-owner of record label Shitkatapult, has been a name on the European electronic circuit for years, starting with Multifunktionsebene, which shot off from Shitkatapult in 2001. He’s collaborated with the likes of Modeselektor and Ellen Allien, and garnered critical praise, winning Europe’s Qwartz Dancefloor award in 2009. His career has shifted gears, and he’s now making a name for himself in the States too.

His voice leads this song on an ebbing and flowing four and a half minute wave ride. Somewhere in the middle of an echoing synth comes a growing pitch, and soon enough you’ve forgotten the first part of the buildup, because now “two hours of surgency” is ringing through your head as the climax draws near.

Surreal bells go off and remind you that you’re just listening to a song, and not intertwined in this dynamic artist’s new album, The Devil’s Walk, which came out a mere week and a half ago. After being exposed to the album for that short amount of time, it’s easy to become acquainted with the highs and lows, builds and drops, and general exuberance that this accomplished artist treats us with fairly frequently. And my only response to this album drop is that I can’t wait to see what the next one brings.
