“Birthday“
from the EP One Too Many Hearts
2008
iTunes
It’s no surprise that a band called The Bird and the Bee would have a soft, mushy spot in their hearts for Valentine’s Day. The jazz-pop duo released digital-only EP One Too Many Hearts on February 12 especially for that most romantic (or most depressing) time of the year. The four-song set includes three new compositions — “Birthday,“ “The Last Days of Our Lives” and “Come As You Were” — plus a cover of “Tonight You Belong to Me.” Though it was written in 1926 and has been recorded numerous times, comedian Steve Martin memorably performed the tune as a duet with Bernadette Peters in the cult classic 1979 film The Jerk. Now that’s what we call romantic.
