Everything Everything are about as British as it gets. Formed by four Manchester students in 2007, the band takes influence from Muse (in the best way possible), XTC and, naturally, the guys that gave them their name. EE have had no trouble making waves across the Atlantic — they’re signed to Sony/RCA and they regularly open for massive acts (Foals, Snow Patrol, Muse, etc.).
Things over here, though, have moved at a slower pace. There are certain British things that can remain only British things and it’s fine, but Everything Everything are too good to stay uni-continental. Let’s build things… I’m talking U.S. infiltration and ultimately a GLOBAL EMPIRE.
If there’s any EE track that could be poised to break through in the U.S., it’s their newest, Motown-tinged single, “Regret.” Toning down the cyber-rock vibe found on the group’s 2013 sophomore album, Arc, “Regret” is, by EE standards, a digestible pop song. This go around, singer Jonathan Higgs’ falsetto is smoother, less startling, more confident and less awkward. He sings of a world in which people are “humans, trying to click undo man.” Higgs’ world-weary philosophy remains the same; he’s just getting better at expressing it.
Everything Everything’s third LP, Get to Heaven, is out now.
