The Internet is a big place. Trim the fat and have a listen to some of our favorite songs that came out this week, from punk to hip hop and everything in between. Check back each Friday for a briefing on what you missed in music.
Diet Cig: “Sleep Talk”
We loved Diet Cig’s winter single, and we’re pleased to report that we also love their summer single. Alex Luciano’s bitter post-love story set to noisy pop is a part of a two-song 7-inch due out this fall, and it can’t get here fast enough.
Palehound: “Healthier Folk”
The second track released off of Palehound’s upcoming full-length record, Dry Food, shows quite a bit of promise for the August 14 release. The track is mellow, but not without bite, sending Ellen Kempner’s drifting voice over perfectly muffled riffs.
Destroyer: “Girl in a Sling”
Destroyer’s 2011 album, Kaputt, blew away many a fine music lover, and there’s a good chance their new one will similarly impress. Filled with lonely saxophone, aching strings and gorgeous piano, “Girl in a Sling” is simple and stunning.
Chelsea Wolfe: “Abyss”
The third massively dark single off of Chelsea Wolfe’s new album (which leaked yesterday, by the way), “Abyss” starts with her eerie, echoing vocals and builds into a tsunami of dread. Beautiful and scary in all the best ways.
Micachu & the Shapes: “Oh Baby”
Off of Micachu & the Shapes’ forthcoming album, Good Sad Happy Bad, “Oh Baby” gets across some of those basic emotions through mesmerizing rock-trance. It’s a glimmering, easy summer listen.
LÈON: “Tired of Talking”
I’m tired of talking, too. Here’s great pop from Swedish singer, LÈON.
