There’s a genre of literature called steampunk that infuses the 19th century with retro-futuristic devices fashioned to fit the era. What Oh Wonder does on “Lose It” is the musical equivalent of steampunk. What begins as a jazz-era piano riding by on sustained keys turns into a retrofitted funk beat pushed forward by a crumbling bass and smooth, electric synths. You can see the old-timey piano in the corner of bar start producing the futuristic electronic tunes as the track carries on.
The catchiness of “Lose It” sneaks up on you, a sly bit of brass and tambourine taps slowly causing your fingers to snap and feet to shuffle to the dance floor. It’s a bit of folky indie pop that provides nothing but smile-inducing vibes.
Anthony and Josephine sing sweetly as they harmonize:
“Move your feet and feel it in the space between
You got to give yourself a moment
Let your body be
We got to lose it, we got to lose it”
Stress, trouble, worries, you’ll lose it all while nodding along.
