Though Ryley Walker resides in present day Chicago, his fusion of folk and jazz sends listeners into a musical world that existed decades ago…across an ocean. “Primrose Green,” the title track off of his Dead Oceans debut, is unsurprisingly another kick to the Internet’s pants. Green in spirit and lush in character, the track is a lofty one that somehow remains relaxed above its intermingling piano, drum and guitar parts.

From its earthy tone to its portrait-styled cover art, “Primrose Green” reminds me of Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks, another work that feels removed from any time or place; as with that important piece, “Primrose Green” only benefits from its faraway feel.

this really doesn’t sound like it’s music from today, could well be a song from the end 60’s, even sound wise. Enchanting, amazing guitars!
