Cass McCombs has made his career being the epitome of a ramblin’ man, bouncing from city to city across the U.S. carrying little more than his modern folk sensibilities. The singer-songwriter sets up shop on tour stops and invites potential fans in to his humble dwellings, coaxing them with his everyman sound.
McCombs’ latest tour partner, the Meat Puppets, are also sharing space with him on a 7-inch split released in late October. “Night of the World” is part of Cass McCombs’ contributions to the record, a funky folk tune with some heavy blues influence. The song rolls in like tumbleweed through a ghost town, riding the dusty plucks of guitar strings. A soggy, kicking drum drives the song forward as Cass provides subdued vocals that become more drawn out as the song carries on. Then the song fades, wandering quietly like a sunset falls in the dusk.
