It feels fitting to talk about this track in the fall. Suno Deko’s “Bluets” has a hazy, reflective sound that would pair well with a walk amongst changing leaves. Atlanta-based musician David Courtwright is the man otherwise known as Suno Deko and though he’s only released a few singles, he’s landed gigs with Mutual Benefit, How to Dress Well and Hundred Waters. It’s easy to see how he’s had such success…Suno Deko’s music is not hard to get into. Courtwright has an ear for warm, inviting loops and he knows how to keep things simple. On “Bluets,” Suno Deko employs a three-chord progression for the entirety of the track, but he keeps it exciting by layering, layering and layering some more.
Although Courtwright’s makes no effort to mask his influences—think Panda Bear, Atlas Sound, or really any flannel-clad guy in a bedroom—he certainly knows how to spin melodies together.
Sun Deko is currently on on tour with Mutual Benefit, and you can find his Thrown Color EP on the interweb.
