Double Ewes, three Wisconsin farm boys with a fondness for electronica, just dropped their self-titled debut. The album is raised from the earth, carefully tended and coaxed into bloom, lost deep in a pastoral dreamland. Sounds build gradually as they reach toward the sunlight, leaning nonchalant against sampled beats for support until finally leafing outward with gentle pans, melodious bass lines, and slow burning filters.

The tune “Lonely Doe” outlines a vocal melody before cementing into a trip-hop beat. A hazy hook and a bouncing rhythm weave in and out of “Leave the Dance (With the Girl You Brought.)” Honest-to-god New Age woodwinds dissolve into a Four Tet inspired fizz on the track “A.I.” The opening track “Phosphenes” shatters apart like broken glass.

It’s meticulous, never overbearing electronica. There’s space. It’s both orderly yet wild. Analog and digital tones intertwine naturally, as if they were never in conflict in the first place. From all the noticeable hard work Double Ewes put into the construction of this album, we find rewarding fruits from the labor. Relax and reap their harvest.
