Total collapse has never felt so good. Possibly even for the exhausted and lonesome fellow from down under whose struggles in heartache generate the electronic waves that tickle our fortunate ear drums. Yes, even our protagonist — our emotionally-abused protagonist — seems in control of the troubles he is enduring.
While Mark Zito may not be feeling quite as content as those listening to “Twisted,” his lyrics do suggest that the hardships he is experiencing have been self-inflicted. To be in charge of such difficult decisions appears to be a theme for Zito. Under the handle of Fractures, Zito has overseen every aspect of the music he releases. Most recently, “Twisted” demonstrated the multi-instrumental talent and vocal abilities of this burgeoning Australian artist.
Splicing rhythm and blues, pop and electronic elements with a weeping guitar line, “Twisted” doesn’t waste time revealing Zito’s superb talent for under-his-breath lyrics soaked with emotion nor the message they convey. Each added effect, instrument, or increase in energy keeps the track interesting but luckily subsides quickly enough to keep the haunting lyrics at the focal point. Haunting enough to be compared to James Blake? Fractures certainly seems to warrant that comparison and should therefore be kept under watch for additional outbursts of depressing thoughts fueling beautiful tunes.
