AraabMuzik, born Abraham Orellana and not Arabic, is actually a Rhode Islander of Dominican and Guatemalan descent. He is an artist in transformation from hip-hop producer to live DJ… and live, he is simply amazing.
At once, Araab is dance, dubstep, and hip-hop, sometimes called dipset (ugh… I prefer ghettotech). It’s “the new hip-hop”! The hip-hop community is just starting to blend with electronic music and it being embraced in fresh and exciting ways.
His show can be unrecognizable to his recorded material (except the live recordings). The mistake often made at AraabMuzik shows is watching the him work his magic fingers on the MPC board, but what you really want to do is just let the bass wash over you and enjoy being transported to the land of thump.
I have seen him before, and I made the mistake of listening to his album material before going. This led to disappointment for the first couple of songs; it wasn’t until I got over the disparate between AraabMuzik’s live sound and his recorded material. If, like me, you want to prep for a show, watch some live YouTube clips. Abraham talks about his transition from a record producer to a live musician. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do next.
