“Silver Tongue” is undeniable catchy, and you will find yourself humming the tune of the chorus, chanting “You are silver tongued, you are…” for hours on end.
There’s nothing new or revolutionary about this new single from Zulu Winter, as it sounds very similar to other indie tracks released by other indie bands. Namely Coldplay, and lead singer Will Daunt’s voice is reminiscent of Coldpay’s Chris Martin at a few moments. But the song’s foot-tapping beat, breezy atmospheric chords, and elevated vocal rifts makes “Silver Tongue” a song that you will want to add to your fall playlist. Trust me.
London band Zulu Winter has been making music since they were 15, but “Silver Tongue” is a successful single from their very first LP, Language, which was just released this past June. It is an eclectic album, with upbeat songs right beside slow anthems, but “Silver Tongue” is one of the best.
It starts with a few brief seconds of whirling synths then jumps into a shockingly lively drumbeat that extends throughout the entire song. The synths remain, though, to keep the almost jittery rhythm down to earth and to make the song decidedly mellow. When the chorus comes about, the rest of the band backs the singer’s powerful vocals, and all of them are singing the song’s message in unison. It will make you sing along.
“Silver Tongue” is beautiful in its simplicity, and from what I can tell, you will probably be hearing more and more from Zulu Winter.
