Few listeners of Firehorse’s debut album And So We Ran Faster… would ever imagine the eclectic nature of front woman Leah Siegel’s musical career. As exemplified by the single “Our Hearts,” Siegel’s most recent musical venture manifests itself with such drive and effectiveness it gives the impression of that Firehorse has the experience of a veteran venture. This is far from the case, however, as Firehorse is notably the most recent project of the Siegel’s workaholic-esque musical career. But the band is clearly no mere side project, carrying with it a certain novelty that is rarely seen in the typical combined pop and electronica genre. So what sets Siegel apart from other groups who rely heavily on electronic beats and Garageband reminiscent sound mixing? This girl’s got soul.

With vocals that can only be described as tantalizing, Siegel takes her considerably widely ranged musical talent and leaves listeners an ethereal feeling as though we are swimming through sound. The creativity of the track lends to recognition of Siegel’s vast professional range — she has done everything from the singer/soundtrack genre to commercial work. (You know the jingle in the “every kiss begins with Kay” Jewelers commercial? Yeah, that’s her.) Taking bits and pieces from her vast experience and musical open-mindedness, Siegel has created a sound that is both original and enticing. Mix this with her the thoughtful (though at times repetitive) lyrics in “Our Hearts,” and I think we’ve got ourselves a songstress with a distinct sound to call her own.
