The Brooklyn-via-Long Island group Twin Sister have only been around since 2008 but have created significant waves after two well received EPs (Vampires with Dreaming Kids and Color Your Life). Their first full-length LP, In Heaven, was released late last month and is no exception with its more mature and refined sound. Andrea Estella’s voice dominants most of the record and is as distinct and soothing as ever; it’s effortless and powerful at the same time, consuming you in a whirlwind of experimental pop.

“Bad Street,” the track that’s been traveling around the web since summer, is a fun punchy beat that doesn’t get caught up in heavy lyrics but proves catchy and effective in repetition. In a dreamy tone, “I want it bad” repeats in the background against funky pop chords until it surfaces with seductive power, demonstrating the surprises layered in each song.

Many artists this year have been sampling classic ’80s loops and reworking them in a modern way, but Twin Sister uses inspiration in a subtle, refreshing approach that makes the album as a whole feel like it could be the score for 21st century John Hughes-esque movie.
