There’s something every listener must know before listening to this album: These boys hail from Austin, Texas. I’d say the state has something of a rambunctious reputation, and it’s definitely recognizable in the energy of this funky-rock band. Their third album, Live Music, gives off a feel-good vibe, and it is this loose vibe that gives this garage-band its edge.
The leading, and perhaps the best, track on the album is “Me and You,” which is carried by guitarist and pianist Greg Enlow. Of course, just by listening to the song you can tell how the keys provide the grounds for the music, but by watching the music video, you can see how the band further emphasizes the importance of this instrument, following the band with multiple pianos in different spaces and playing-forms.
The Strange Boys incorporate elements of country not usually found in modern bands, but their utilization of the genre heightens their sound and emphasizes their presence on the music scene. The whole album makes you want to hop in a truck and drive to a downtown bar to catch up with old friends over a couple of beers. For those people who are totally against country, you’ll still develop a strong appreciation for these strange boys.
