Talking about “Playing House,” Pat Grossi’s duet with How to Dress Well under his Active Child moniker, fellow Prefix writer Andrew Winistorfer referred to both projects as “operatic” and “R&B loving,” not at all inappropriate descriptions. “Hanging On,” the latest Active Child track, is being released to the public as part of Adult Swim’s 2011 Singles Program, which includes tracks from Mastodon and Best Coast, and will be a song from Active Child’s forthcoming full length You Are All I See, due August 23 on Vagrant Records. It’s a beautifully representative Active Child track that fits the “operatic” and “R&B loving” descriptors well. Grossi’s harp playing comes to the forefront, laying down a tender bed for the dramatic synth action and towering vocals that swirl around it. It sounds a bit like an Antony & the Johnsons track filtered through 80s New Wave, which is as awesome as it sounds.
