Peter Bjorn and John crank up the cowbell on their catchy new song, “Second Chance,” from their forthcoming album Gimme Some, set for a March 29 release.
The song reveals its infectious nature right away with dreamy “ooh” vocal chants, complemented by perhaps the most effective use of cowbell that pop music has seen in some time. “Second Chance” also features slightly distorted vocals and guitars that add a garage rock element to the song.
Peter Moren sings about the importance of getting things right the first time: “You can’t, can’t count on a second chance / The second chance will never be found / You can’t, can’t count on a second try / The second try is such a come down.”
“Second Chance” is reminiscent of the group’s song “Young Folks,” the whistling-dominated track that became one of the biggest indie hits of 2007 and was covered by artists ranging from James Blunt to Kanye West. “Gimme Some” will be the group’s sixth album and first since 2009’s Living Thing.
Peter Bjorn and John are currently rehearsing in the U.S. and hinted via Twitter that they might play some secret shows here.
