The Baltimore-based indie duo Wye Oak became well known outside of their homebase after they signed with Merge Records a few years ago and released the album The Knot, which was filled with uniquely dreamy Americana songs.
Come this March 8, the group has announced they will drop its third release, called Civilian. It’s coming out on CD, LP, and digital download and will drop a day earlier in Europe vin City Slang. For this one, lyricist/guitarist Jenn Wasner says the songs “are, as a whole, about aloneness (the positive kind), loneliness (the horrible kind), moving on, and letting go (of people, places, and things).” She and multi-instrumentalist Andy Stack also worked with mixing engineer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Shearwater), who Wasner says “pushed us into some exciting and sometimes scary new territory.”
If that whetted your curiosity, you can hear a preview, since the band and Merge Records is making the title track available for download. Wye Oak will also hit the road come the new year, playing some shows with The Decemberists. MORE
