Dead Sound
from the album Lust, Lust, Lust
2008
iTunes

“Dead Sound” begins with a blast of sculpted distortion, a lurid crescendo that lays a patch for the sexed-up Chain Gang of Love rather than the nosebleed Pretty in Black. That gutter static plays backseat bingo with Sharin Foo’s young love melodies, going upshirt for a handful of good-girl vocals and rubbing up against blue-suede-shoegazer guitars. A real song rather than an exercise in influences, “Dead Sound” sounds anything but. It’s chrome-plated, a hot rod agitating the gravel and racing for pinks. The Raveonettes have found a way to assimilate all those early-rock influences into a great love sound.
