Touring in support of Sydney electronic group Panama, Halcyon Drive has seen their fair share of Australia as of late. With a reputation for an energetic live set, the Melbourne group has made the rounds and a name for themselves as the next group up. Perhaps it was this taste of notoriety that sparked major connections and ultimately the upbeat track, “Whitewash.”
Produced by Steven Schram, whose prior credits include The Cat Empire and San Cisco, and mastered by Brian Lucey, who touts Arctic Monkeys and The Black Keys on his résumé, “Whitewash” is much more than an effect-driven stage romper. Did I not mention that Halcyon Drive is a duo? Well-measured loops from the drum kit and singular guitar blast out much more noise than two people should ever be capable of creating. When muted and cut short the looping guitar riff is incredibly catchy, each quick burst calling for another. Yet with Schram and Lucey on board, the newest single from Halcyon Drive is much more than an amphitheater-energizer — it’s a single, and that means more will follow.
